- Monthly Food & Seasonal Collections | St. Mary's Baldwinsville
Liturgical Ministries Monthly Food & Seasonal Collections Monthly Food Collection On the first weekend of each month, St. Mary's collects food and toiletries to help replenish the Baldwinsville Community Food Pantry. Donations can be dropped off in the South Hallway of the Church (closest to the Parish Center) in the designated area. Individuals Looking for Food Pantry Assistance The Baldwinsville Community Food Pantry began in 1978 and presently operates from 10 am to 1pm, five days a week from within the Baldwinsville First United Methodist Church, located at 17 West Genesee Street. It relies solely on gracious volunteers to staff the pantry, replenish shelves, and donate funds and food for distribution. The Food Pantry provides individuals and families with three days worth of meals once per month, and a community dinner is offered free of charge to anyone from 5 pm - 6:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month from October - May. Seasonal Collections Each month at St. Mary's, our Parish Outreach Committee holds collections to benefit certain agencies, groups, or needs of the community. Below is a list of the collections that we currently run each month with information about each collection. This list may change from year to year, and this page will be updated to reflect those changes. Volunteers are needed to assist with sorting and distributing items that are collected during these times. January Outreach Collection - Winter Clothes Do you need to make room in your closets after Christmas? Let St. Mary's help you out! During t he month of January, please bring your CLEAN, used winter clothing in good condition and place it in the designated collection area in the South Hallway (headed towards the Parish Center). We will collect winter boots, snow pants, coats, jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens. The items will be given to Catholic Charities and distributed to those who are in need. February Outreach Collection - H.E.L.P. Project (Household Essentials for Living Pantry) Food pantries report that daily basic household supplies that we all use, such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and baby diapers are seldom donated and that they are receiving an increasing number of requests for these kinds of supplies. Food stamps cannot be used to buy these items making it harder for families to replace them. During the month of February, St. Mary's Outreach Committee holds a collection for specific household items requested by the local food pantries. This list can be found in the bulletin during the month of February. March/April Outreach Collection - Easter Bunnies & Baskets Every Easter we hope to provide a little cheer and happiness to the children who will be in the hospital. It would be wonderful if each child could wake up to a stuffed animal on Easter morning. The stuffed bunnies should be no larger than a standard 14 inches and new. All bunnies can be placed in the Marian and Sacred Heart Shrines during the published collection dates. If there are more bunnies than the hospital needs, they will be sent to Francis House, McHarrie Life Nursing Home and the Veterans Hospital (Nursing Home Unit). If you would enjoy making an Easter Basket for a child, the Parish Outreach Committee would greatly appreciate you doing so. The baskets should be labeled for a boy or girl, age 4-6, 7-9, or 10-12. Dates for the basket collection will be published in the Parish bulletin during Lent. May Outreach Collection - Baby Items Gift a mom with items for baby during the month of May! Help provide for baby's basic needs with new items. A list of specific items needed for this collection is published in our Parish bulletin at the beginning of May. Gifts will be distributed through Birthright, Joseph's House and New Life Pregnancy Center. July Outreach Collection - The Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation Care Packages One of the ways the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation supports the troops is by sending care packages overseas. Community outreach is vital in keeping military morale high while deployed. Our service members look forward to receiving cards, letters and care packages. If you would like to donate items for the care packages or know a group, business or organization that would like to participate, a list of suggested items needed by dedicated military service members can be found in our Parish bulletin during the month of July. Once collected, please contact the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation to coordinate a drop off or pick up of items. For more information about the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation, please visit their website here . August Outreach Collection - School Supplies St. Mary's Parish Outreach collects school supplies during the month of August to be distributed to those that have a need. Items desired include: #2 pencils, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, wide ruled spiral notebooks, notebook paper (wide ruled), folders, rulers, backpacks, binders. October Outreach Collection - Respect Life Baby Bottles During the month of October, our Parish Outreach Committee joins forces with our Respect Life Committee to raise funds for mothers and their children. Children are a gift from God. Help make a difference in the lives of mothers and their children. Bottles are available at the beginning of October at the Church entrances - fill with change, bills or a check, and return to the office or place in the bassinet in the South Hallway of the Church through the end of October. Your donations will support the services of Joseph's House. Make a real change by sharing your change! November Outreach Collection - Turkey Day Race Food Drive In 2018 St. Mary's and St. Augustine's partnered with the Baldwinsville Kiwanis Turkey Day Race to hold a huge food drive for the first time! After seeing the success of the food drive, we made it our mission to continue to help those in the Baldwinsville community with this food drive every year! St. Elizabeth Ann Seton joined the cause in 2019. Together, we collect food and funds to benefit the Baldwinsville Food Pantry and the Backpack Program. Please click here for more information about the Turkey Day Race Food Drive . December Outreach Collections - Christmas Bureau Food Collection, Giving Tree & Mitten Tree Each Advent season, our Parish Outreach collects food for the Baldwinsville Christmas Bureau. This collection helps to support those families in need within our community during the holiday season. Also during the Advent season, Giving Tree tags are available in baskets on the side altars. We ask that each parishioner take a tag and return the unwrapped item with the tag attached and place them in the designated drop off area. Gifts from the Giving Tree are distributed to Brady Faith, Lullabye League, Parent Aide, Vincent House, Catholic Charities Men's Shelter and other agencies that assist those in need in our community. The mitten tree can be found in the Parish Center main hallway during the Advent season. Gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves can be hung on the tree through the 3rd Sunday of Advent. They are then distributed to the Catholic Charities Men's Shelter, Vincent House, Brady Faith, and other agencies who assist those in need in our community. Your gifts will warm the hearts of those less fortunate.

David Kessler Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief "Each person's grief is as unique as their fingerprint. But what everyone has in common is that no matter how they grieve, they share a need for their grief to be witnessed. That doesn't mean needing someone to try to lessen it or reframe it for them. The need is for someone to be fully present to the magnitude of their loss without trying to point out the silver lining."
