- Monthly Food & Seasonal Collections | St. Mary's Baldwinsville
Liturgical Ministries Monthly Food & Seasonal Collections Monthly Food Collection On the first weekend of each month, St. Mary's collects food and toiletries to help replenish the Baldwinsville Community Food Pantry. Donations can be dropped off in the South Hallway of the Church (closest to the Parish Center) in the designated area. Individuals Looking for Food Pantry Assistance The Baldwinsville Community Food Pantry began in 1978 and presently operates from 10 am to 1pm, five days a week from within the Baldwinsville First United Methodist Church, located at 17 West Genesee Street. It relies solely on gracious volunteers to staff the pantry, replenish shelves, and donate funds and food for distribution. The Food Pantry provides individuals and families with three days worth of meals once per month, and a community dinner is offered free of charge to anyone from 5 pm - 6:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month from October - May. Seasonal Collections Each month at St. Mary's, our Parish Outreach Committee holds collections to benefit certain agencies, groups, or needs of the community. Below is a list of the collections that we currently run each month with information about each collection. This list may change from year to year, and this page will be updated to reflect those changes. Volunteers are needed to assist with sorting and distributing items that are collected during these times. January Outreach Collection - Winter Clothes Do you need to make room in your closets after Christmas? Let St. Mary's help you out! During t he month of January, please bring your CLEAN, used winter clothing in good condition and place it in the designated collection area in the South Hallway (headed towards the Parish Center). We will collect winter boots, snow pants, coats, jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens. The items will be given to Catholic Charities and distributed to those who are in need. February Outreach Collection - H.E.L.P. Project (Household Essentials for Living Pantry) Food pantries report that daily basic household supplies that we all use, such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and baby diapers are seldom donated and that they are receiving an increasing number of requests for these kinds of supplies. Food stamps cannot be used to buy these items making it harder for families to replace them. During the month of February, St. Mary's Outreach Committee holds a collection for specific household items requested by the local food pantries. This list can be found in the bulletin during the month of February. March/April Outreach Collection - Easter Bunnies & Baskets Every Easter we hope to provide a little cheer and happiness to the children who will be in the hospital. It would be wonderful if each child could wake up to a stuffed animal on Easter morning. The stuffed bunnies should be no larger than a standard 14 inches and new. All bunnies can be placed in the Marian and Sacred Heart Shrines during the published collection dates. If there are more bunnies than the hospital needs, they will be sent to Francis House, McHarrie Life Nursing Home and the Veterans Hospital (Nursing Home Unit). If you would enjoy making an Easter Basket for a child, the Parish Outreach Committee would greatly appreciate you doing so. The baskets should be labeled for a boy or girl, age 4-6, 7-9, or 10-12. Dates for the basket collection will be published in the Parish bulletin during Lent. May Outreach Collection - Baby Items Gift a mom with items for baby during the month of May! Help provide for baby's basic needs with new items. A list of specific items needed for this collection is published in our Parish bulletin at the beginning of May. Gifts will be distributed through Birthright, Joseph's House and New Life Pregnancy Center. July Outreach Collection - The Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation Care Packages One of the ways the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation supports the troops is by sending care packages overseas. Community outreach is vital in keeping military morale high while deployed. Our service members look forward to receiving cards, letters and care packages. If you would like to donate items for the care packages or know a group, business or organization that would like to participate, a list of suggested items needed by dedicated military service members can be found in our Parish bulletin during the month of July. Once collected, please contact the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation to coordinate a drop off or pick up of items. For more information about the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation, please visit their website here . August Outreach Collection - School Supplies St. Mary's Parish Outreach collects school supplies during the month of August to be distributed to those that have a need. Items desired include: #2 pencils, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, wide ruled spiral notebooks, notebook paper (wide ruled), folders, rulers, backpacks, binders. October Outreach Collection - Respect Life Baby Bottles During the month of October, our Parish Outreach Committee joins forces with our Respect Life Committee to raise funds for mothers and their children. Children are a gift from God. Help make a difference in the lives of mothers and their children. Bottles are available at the beginning of October at the Church entrances - fill with change, bills or a check, and return to the office or place in the bassinet in the South Hallway of the Church through the end of October. Your donations will support the services of Joseph's House. Make a real change by sharing your change! November Outreach Collection - Turkey Day Race Food Drive In 2018 St. Mary's and St. Augustine's partnered with the Baldwinsville Kiwanis Turkey Day Race to hold a huge food drive for the first time! After seeing the success of the food drive, we made it our mission to continue to help those in the Baldwinsville community with this food drive every year! St. Elizabeth Ann Seton joined the cause in 2019. Together, we collect food and funds to benefit the Baldwinsville Food Pantry and the Backpack Program. Please click here for more information about the Turkey Day Race Food Drive . December Outreach Collections - Christmas Bureau Food Collection, Giving Tree & Mitten Tree Each Advent season, our Parish Outreach collects food for the Baldwinsville Christmas Bureau. This collection helps to support those families in need within our community during the holiday season. Also during the Advent season, Giving Tree tags are available in baskets on the side altars. We ask that each parishioner take a tag and return the unwrapped item with the tag attached and place them in the designated drop off area. Gifts from the Giving Tree are distributed to Brady Faith, Lullabye League, Parent Aide, Vincent House, Catholic Charities Men's Shelter and other agencies that assist those in need in our community. The mitten tree can be found in the Parish Center main hallway during the Advent season. Gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves can be hung on the tree through the 3rd Sunday of Advent. They are then distributed to the Catholic Charities Men's Shelter, Vincent House, Brady Faith, and other agencies who assist those in need in our community. Your gifts will warm the hearts of those less fortunate.

Parish Support Ministries Altar Care Altar Care Our Altar Care ministry is responsible for keeping the church ready for Masses and parish functions through a weekly cleaning schedule. Teams of 2-3 people are scheduled on a rotating basis for the entire year (roughly 5-6 weeks each year). New schedules are sent out to team members in November of each year. Cleaning guidelines are posted in the work sacristy in the back hallway of the Church, and cleaning should take the team about 30 minutes. Altar Linens Altar Linens Our Altar Linen Ministry is responsible for keeping the altar linens that are used at weekend liturgies washed and pressed through a monthly schedule. Volunteers are scheduled 1-2 months out of the year to participate in this ministry, and training is provided on how to properly launder and press the linens. Finance Comittee Finance Committee Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers) serve our parish community by distributing Holy Communion at weekend and special liturgies. A training session is required for first-time ministers of the parish. Re-training sessions are also available for ministers who would like a refresher. Ministers are scheduled approximately once every four weeks (or more often if they choose) at the Mass of their choice. Eucharistic Ministers must be fully initiated (c onfirmed) in the Catholic faith. Eucharistic Ministers must also dress appropriately. (No flip flops, jeans, or shorts. Women may wear sandals, but they must be make sure they can go up and down the Sanctuary steps safely. Gentlemen should wear a dress shirt with dress pants or dress Dockers. Women should wear a blouse and skirt or slacks, or a dress. The length of the skirt or dress should be appropriate for church. Grounds Care Grounds Care Grounds Care is a ministry dedicated to maintaining and beautifying our church, rectory, school, and chapel house grounds. It requires one large spring clean up scheduled for one morning in May of each year. In addition, there are 10 garden spots within the grounds that volunteers may "adopt" and weed at least 4 times during the summer months (June, July, August, and September - one time per month). Notification of the annual spring clean up is communicated during the first week of May through parish communications. Money Counters Money Counters Money (collection) counters count and deposit the weekend collections. There are 6 teams of 3 people who meet on Sunday morning, immediately following the 9:00am Mass. Teams are scheduled monthly on a rotating basis, serving 2 times per year. Volunteers for this ministry should have basic math skills, the ability to use a calculator (adding machine), and money handling skills, while not required, would be a plus. All members of this ministry are required to maintain confidentiality. Photo Video Photographer / Videographer Are you an amateur photographer or videographer? Would you be willing to put your gifts and talents to use for the parish? St. Mary's is trying to develop a more visual presence in the bulletin as well as on our website and on social media. To do this we need people who would be willing to take photographs and video at our many events as the year unfolds. The frequency of the commitment would be based on availability. Ministry Requirements All photographers/videographers must be current with their Safe Environment training through the Diocese of Syracuse. If you would like to volunteer and have not been certified through Safe Environment, you must take the initial training course and complete the required background check before you will be allowed to volunteer in this capacity. All photos taken at parish events that include children must be turned over to the parish and removed from personal devices, per the Safe Environment policy.

- Altar Servers | St. Mary's Baldwinsville
Liturgical Ministries Altar Server Commissioning October 26, 2024 Thank you to the altar servers who were commissioned on Saturday, October 26 at the 4pm Mass, and a special thank you to their families for supporting them in their ministry. We are blessed to have you all! Altar Servers The ministry of altar server affords youths an opportunity to express their personal spirituality. This simple acts of service performed are, in essence, acts of love for God. By actively participating in the liturgy through which Jesus becomes sacramentally present on the altar, servers express their personal desire to be close to Jesus. The expression of a youth's spirituality also has a family dimension, for the youth server's ministry can only succeed with the full support of his or her family. The server's family life, in turn, is strengthened by this ministry, which provides a visible manifestation of the communal and transcendent purpose of the Christian family. Closely related to the dimension of personal spirituality is the role of servant to the priest, who presides as an Alter Christus (i.e., standing in the place of Christ) during the liturgy. By reverently assisting the priest, servers express their desire to serve Jesus and to follow his example of humble service to the community. The example of the priest and the other adult liturgical ministers also inspires in the servers a sense of responsibility in ministry. Frequent, direct contact with the adult ministers helps educate the servers in the variety of vocations to which God calls his people. The experience the servers gain should ultimately inform and inspire them in their own vocational discernment. By assisting the priests, altar servers perform a valuable service to the community. They also serve the assembly directly by providing an example of prayerful and reverential participation in the liturgy. As devout and visible worshipers, they share in the parish’s apostolate of witnessing for the Gospel to visitors and others in the assembly who may need support in believing and living the Catholic faith. The altar server’s ministry is a service to others. Servers are often called upon to serve at Mass times that may be inconvenient for them or for their families. In their service to the community, altar servers learn and practice the self-giving love that characterizes the Christian lifestyle. Ministry Requirements Altar servers must be in at least third grade and have made their First Communion. Servers are welcome to continue in this ministry until they graduate from high school. Servers are scheduled along with other liturgical ministries and will be scheduled for their requested Mass at least twice per month, or as frequently as they desire. Training is required, and it will take approximately one and a half hours. A refresher session is offered twice a year. Weddings & Funerals Altar Servers who have been actively serving in ministry for at least 2 years are eligible to serve at wedding and funeral masses. Those interested must attend a special training before being placed on the list of wedding and funeral servers. (Please note that younger servers may be required to be scheduled for wedding/funeral masses with an older/more experienced server.) - Matrimony | St. Mary's Baldwinsville
Sacraments Matrimony Diocesan policy states that arrangements for your wedding should be made at least six (6) months prior to the wedding date and that one of the parties being married must contact the church (bride or groom). Arrangements will not be scheduled with a third party (i.e. parent, wedding planner, etc.) Diocesan regulations do not allow the celebration of weddings on Sundays and certain Saturdays according to the Liturgical Calendar. To be married at St. Mary’s, one party should be a registered member of the parish. If not registered, permission from the bride or groom’s pastor will need to be obtained. There are prescribed marriage preparations required of all couples which consist of the following: Marriage Investigation: It is a requirement for all couples who seek Catholic marriage to complete this form. As a canonical (legal) form, the questions asked ascertain the freedom of the parties to marry and their understanding of the duties and obligations of marriage as taught by the Catholic Church. Pre-Marriage Inventory: This “inventory” is a standardized questionnaire which evaluates the couple’s knowledge of one another and their readiness to marry. Each couple is required to meet with their sponsor couple for at least three meetings to discuss the findings of the inventory. Preparing Your Wedding Ceremony: After confirmation of the ceremony date, the couple will be mailed a packet containing a confirmation letter, our Sacrament of Matrimony Handbook and a copy of Together for Life. These will all be used to assist in planning the wedding mass, including the readings. These selections should be reviewed with the wedding coordinator at least 1 month prior to the wedding ceremony. If you are considering having your wedding ceremony at St. Mary's, the first step is to contact our Parish Office at 315-635-5762. Our Ministry Team will be able to answer any questions you may have, review available dates, and go over the criteria necessary for a Church wedding. But what everyone has in common is that no matter how they grieve, they share a need for their grief to be witnessed. That doesn't mean needing someone to try to lessen it or reframe it for them. The need is for someone to be fully present to the magnitude of their loss without trying to point out the silver lining."
- Governance | St. Mary's Baldwinsville
Governing Bodies St. Mary's has three consultative bodies that serve to advise the pastor about pastoral issues. Their main purposes are to investigate, reflect, and research conclusions about pastoral matters to recommend to the pastor as appropriate. Members of these committees/councils are appointed by the pastor. Pastoral Council The purpose of the Pastoral Council is to identify the spiritual and temporal needs of the parish community and to encourage members of the parish community to participate in the life of the parish. As a council, the members are responsible for the needs of the Universal Church as well as those of the parish. The members, in consultation with the pastor, staff, and ministerial committees, discuss, research, and through consensus, recommend the direction which the parish should take in matters of the church.
