Capital Campaign Corner Page Contents: Capital Campaign Reports Donate Online via Weshare Giving Feasibility Survey Fr. Cliff's March 3, 2024 Homily/Video Case Statement Capital Campaign Overview Video Capital Campaign Reception Video Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) The Posters Feasibility Survey Feasibility Survey St. Mary’s is in the process of conducting a Feasibility Survey to prioritize our projects and help assess the potential results of a parish capital campaign. We would like to address numerous projects throughout our parish campus and these items were listed in last week’s bulletin insert; a copy of that case statement document can be viewed below or downloaded here . The major purpose of this survey is to obtain the feedback from as many parishioners as possible. Anyone who has not filled out a survey in church is welcome to complete one online by clicking the button below. If you did not hear my homily this weekend, you are encouraged to watch it below before completing the survey. With every prayerful wish, I remain, Prayerfully yours, Fr. Cliff (Rev.) Clifford Auth A note of thanks for the surveys we have received thus far. Of the 300 completed surveys, 95% have been in favor of a campaign for which we are very grateful! UPDATE: As of 4/17/24, the survey is closed. Thank you for your participation! Fr. FAQs St. Mary’s Capital Campaign FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) The following is a list of Frequently Asked Questions from the survey responses we received. This information is provided to clarify any questions that you may have regarding the St. Mary’s Capital Campaign. For further information contact Mary Raymond at the parish office (ext. 110) or at mraymond@syrdio.org Question: What is the purpose of this campaign? Answer: This Capital Campaign is designed specifically to fund necessary repairs and improvements to the facilities here at St. Mary's. Money pledged during this campaign will go into a restricted account. Question: Why is now the time for a capital campaign? Answer: Two reasons: 1.) The present state of our facilities requires us to take action to preserve them. 2.) As Fr. Cliff shared in his homily last weekend, there are fewer than 15 priests under the age of 50 in the entire diocese. Priest personnel changes are a more frequent occurrence and there is a decent chance that Fr. Cliff will have different pastoral responsibilities after July 1st of this year. This is not the fault of the Bishop or the Diocese; it is simply where we find ourselves as Church. Diocesan priests will not have the luxury of staying in parishes for extended periods of time but rather minister where they are needed most. In the event of a change, we want to make St. Mary's attractive to a new pastor who will not want to be saddled with the headache of physical plant woes the minute he arrives. Having some of the necessary work underway, with a plan and the means in place to accomplish the rest will allow him to concentrate on his pastoral duties. Question: Has the St. Mary's Capital Campaign been approved by the Diocese? Answer: Yes, Fr. Cliff and the Finance Committee (including our Trustees) went through the normal process to gain the approval from the Bishop’s office. Question: Will any of the Capital Campaign donations be used for the diocesan settlement? Answer: The money that St. Mary’s must pay as part of the settlement has already been set aside. No donations to the Capital Campaign can or will be used for the settlement. Question: Will I be asked to make a HOPE Appeal Donation this fall? No, our 2024 obligation to support HOPE Appeal programs and ministries will be met through this campaign. Approximately, $56,050.00 will be reserved for those ministries. We will not conduct a separate HOPE Appeal campaign in 2024. Question: What is a "restricted account"? What does that mean? Answer: A restricted account allows St. Mary's to use the funds from this Capital Campaign to address the specific projects outlined in the proposal as well as those that may arise unexpectedly. Additionally, we will pay the 2024 HOPE Appeal Parish Assessment from this fund. These funds cannot be used to pay ordinary expenses such as salaries and utility bills, or to purchase materials outside of what is needed for maintenance projects. In other words, the money raised will be used for the areas on our campus in need of repair. Question: Why tackle these maintenance projects when other parishes are closing/consolidating? Answer: We make repairs on our own homes even though we might move some day. We need to do the same here. St. Mary's is a vibrant parish. We have been growing in members and programs. There was an interesting article in the February 15, 2024 edition of the Catholic Sun that reported statistics of all the Catholic parishes in Oswego County and north/northwest Onondaga County (Vicariate 1). The information can be found at https://syracusediocese.org/vicariates . St. Mary's statistics are very impressive and evidence that we are truly a vibrant parish. Maintaining our facilities is an important part of ensuring we can continue our ministry and mission. Question: How will the projects be prioritized? Answer: The order in which projects will be undertaken will be influenced by several factors including: the urgency with which the problem should be addressed, the promptness with which final estimates are provided, availability of reputable contractors, cost, and any other appropriate factor. The pastor will consult with the pastoral council, the finance committee, the capital campaign committee, the trustees, parish staff including the maintenance supervisor, the school principal and interested parishioners. Question: In what form may donations be made? Answer: Pledges will payable over the course of five years. Specific payment plans and methods will be addressed in the coming weeks. - Monthly Food & Seasonal Collections | St. Mary's Baldwinsville
Liturgical Ministries Monthly Food & Seasonal Collections Monthly Food Collection On the first weekend of each month, St. Mary's collects food and toiletries to help replenish the Baldwinsville Community Food Pantry. Donations can be dropped off in the South Hallway of the Church (closest to the Parish Center) in the designated area. Individuals Looking for Food Pantry Assistance The Baldwinsville Community Food Pantry began in 1978 and presently operates from 10 am to 1pm, five days a week from within the Baldwinsville First United Methodist Church, located at 17 West Genesee Street. It relies solely on gracious volunteers to staff the pantry, replenish shelves, and donate funds and food for distribution. The Food Pantry provides individuals and families with three days worth of meals once per month, and a community dinner is offered free of charge to anyone from 5 pm - 6:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month from October - May. Seasonal Collections Each month at St. Mary's, our Parish Outreach Committee holds collections to benefit certain agencies, groups, or needs of the community. Below is a list of the collections that we currently run each month with information about each collection. This list may change from year to year, and this page will be updated to reflect those changes. Volunteers are needed to assist with sorting and distributing items that are collected during these times. January Outreach Collection - Winter Clothes Do you need to make room in your closets after Christmas? Let St. Mary's help you out! During t he month of January, please bring your CLEAN, used winter clothing in good condition and place it in the designated collection area in the South Hallway (headed towards the Parish Center). We will collect winter boots, snow pants, coats, jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens. The items will be given to Catholic Charities and distributed to those who are in need. February Outreach Collection - H.E.L.P. Project (Household Essentials for Living Pantry) Food pantries report that daily basic household supplies that we all use, such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and baby diapers are seldom donated and that they are receiving an increasing number of requests for these kinds of supplies. Food stamps cannot be used to buy these items making it harder for families to replace them. During the month of February, St. Mary's Outreach Committee holds a collection for specific household items requested by the local food pantries. This list can be found in the bulletin during the month of February. March/April Outreach Collection - Easter Bunnies & Baskets Every Easter we hope to provide a little cheer and happiness to the children who will be in the hospital. It would be wonderful if each child could wake up to a stuffed animal on Easter morning. The stuffed bunnies should be no larger than a standard 14 inches and new. All bunnies can be placed in the Marian and Sacred Heart Shrines during the published collection dates. If there are more bunnies than the hospital needs, they will be sent to Francis House, McHarrie Life Nursing Home and the Veterans Hospital (Nursing Home Unit). If you would enjoy making an Easter Basket for a child, the Parish Outreach Committee would greatly appreciate you doing so. The baskets should be labeled for a boy or girl, age 4-6, 7-9, or 10-12. Dates for the basket collection will be published in the Parish bulletin during Lent. May Outreach Collection - Baby Items Gift a mom with items for baby during the month of May! Help provide for baby's basic needs with new items. A list of specific items needed for this collection is published in our Parish bulletin at the beginning of May. Gifts will be distributed through Birthright, Joseph's House and New Life Pregnancy Center. July Outreach Collection - The Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation Care Packages One of the ways the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation supports the troops is by sending care packages overseas. Community outreach is vital in keeping military morale high while deployed. Our service members look forward to receiving cards, letters and care packages. If you would like to donate items for the care packages or know a group, business or organization that would like to participate, a list of suggested items needed by dedicated military service members can be found in our Parish bulletin during the month of July. Once collected, please contact the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation to coordinate a drop off or pick up of items. For more information about the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation, please visit their website here . August Outreach Collection - School Supplies St. Mary's Parish Outreach collects school supplies during the month of August to be distributed to those that have a need. Items desired include: #2 pencils, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, wide ruled spiral notebooks, notebook paper (wide ruled), folders, rulers, backpacks, binders. October Outreach Collection - Respect Life Baby Bottles During the month of October, our Parish Outreach Committee joins forces with our Respect Life Committee to raise funds for mothers and their children. Children are a gift from God. Help make a difference in the lives of mothers and their children. Bottles are available at the beginning of October at the Church entrances - fill with change, bills or a check, and return to the office or place in the bassinet in the South Hallway of the Church through the end of October. Your donations will support the services of Joseph's House. Make a real change by sharing your change! November Outreach Collection - Turkey Day Race Food Drive In 2018 St. Mary's and St. Augustine's partnered with the Baldwinsville Kiwanis Turkey Day Race to hold a huge food drive for the first time! After seeing the success of the food drive, we made it our mission to continue to help those in the Baldwinsville community with this food drive every year! St. Elizabeth Ann Seton joined the cause in 2019. Together, we collect food and funds to benefit the Baldwinsville Food Pantry and the Backpack Program. Please click here for more information about the Turkey Day Race Food Drive . December Outreach Collections - Christmas Bureau Food Collection, Giving Tree & Mitten Tree Each Advent season, our Parish Outreach collects food for the Baldwinsville Christmas Bureau. This collection helps to support those families in need within our community during the holiday season. Also during the Advent season, Giving Tree tags are available in baskets on the side altars. We ask that each parishioner take a tag and return the unwrapped item with the tag attached and place them in the designated drop off area. Gifts from the Giving Tree are distributed to Brady Faith, Lullabye League, Parent Aide, Vincent House, Catholic Charities Men's Shelter and other agencies that assist those in need in our community. The mitten tree can be found in the Parish Center main hallway during the Advent season. Gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves can be hung on the tree through the 3rd Sunday of Advent. They are then distributed to the Catholic Charities Men's Shelter, Vincent House, Brady Faith, and other agencies who assist those in need in our community. Your gifts will warm the hearts of those less fortunate.

Parish Support Ministries Altar Care Altar Care Our Altar Care ministry is responsible for keeping the church ready for Masses and parish functions through a weekly cleaning schedule. Teams of 2-3 people are scheduled on a rotating basis for the entire year (roughly 5-6 weeks each year). New schedules are sent out to team members in November of each year. Cleaning guidelines are posted in the work sacristy in the back hallway of the Church, and cleaning should take the team about 30 minutes. Altar Linens Altar Linens Our Altar Linen Ministry is responsible for keeping the altar linens that are used at weekend liturgies washed and pressed through a monthly schedule. Volunteers are scheduled 1-2 months out of the year to participate in this ministry, and training is provided on how to properly launder and press the linens. Finance Comittee Finance Committee Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers) serve our parish community by distributing Holy Communion at weekend and special liturgies. A training session is required for first-time ministers of the parish. Re-training sessions are also available for ministers who would like a refresher. Grounds Care Grounds Care Grounds Care is a ministry dedicated to maintaining and beautifying our church, rectory, school, and chapel house grounds. It requires one large spring clean up scheduled for one morning in May of each year. In addition, there are 10 garden spots within the grounds that volunteers may "adopt" and weed at least 4 times during the summer months (June, July, August, and September - one time per month). Notification of the annual spring clean up is communicated during the first week of May through parish communications. Money Counters Money Counters Money (collection) counters count and deposit the weekend collections. There are 6 teams of 3 people who meet on Sunday morning, immediately following the 9:00am Mass. Teams are scheduled monthly on a rotating basis, serving 2 times per year. Volunteers for this ministry should have basic math skills, the ability to use a calculator (adding machine), and money handling skills, while not required, would be a plus. All members of this ministry are required to maintain confidentiality. Photo Video Photographer / Videographer Are you an amateur photographer or videographer? Would you be willing to put your gifts and talents to use for the parish? St. Mary's is trying to develop a more visual presence in the bulletin as well as on our website and on social media. To do this we need people who would be willing to take photographs and video at our many events as the year unfolds. The frequency of the commitment would be based on availability. Ministry Requirements All photographers/videographers must be current with their Safe Environment training through the Diocese of Syracuse. If you would like to volunteer and have not been certified through Safe Environment, you must take the initial training course and complete the required background check before you will be allowed to volunteer in this capacity. All photos taken at parish events that include children must be turned over to the parish and removed from personal devices, per the Safe Environment policy.
