Parish Support Ministries Altar Care Altar Care Our Altar Care ministry is responsible for keeping the church ready for Masses and parish functions through a weekly cleaning schedule. Teams of 2-3 people are scheduled on a rotating basis for the entire year (roughly 5-6 weeks each year). New schedules are sent out to team members in November of each year. Cleaning guidelines are posted in the work sacristy in the back hallway of the Church, and cleaning should take the team about 30 minutes. Altar Linens Altar Linens Our Altar Linen Ministry is responsible for keeping the altar linens that are used at weekend liturgies washed and pressed through a monthly schedule. Volunteers are scheduled 1-2 months out of the year to participate in this ministry, and training is provided on how to properly launder and press the linens. Finance Comittee Finance Committee Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers) serve our parish community by distributing Holy Communion at weekend and special liturgies. A training session is required for first-time ministers of the parish. Re-training sessions are also available for ministers who would like a refresher. Ministers are scheduled approximately once every four weeks (or more often if they choose) at the Mass of their choice. Eucharistic Ministers must be fully initiated (c onfirmed) in the Catholic faith. Eucharistic Ministers must also dress appropriately. (No flip flops, jeans, or shorts. Women may wear sandals, but they must be make sure they can go up and down the Sanctuary steps safely. Gentlemen should wear a dress shirt with dress pants or dress Dockers. Women should wear a blouse and skirt or slacks, or a dress. The length of the skirt or dress should be appropriate for church. Grounds Care Grounds Care Grounds Care is a ministry dedicated to maintaining and beautifying our church, rectory, school, and chapel house grounds. It requires one large spring clean up scheduled for one morning in May of each year. In addition, there are 10 garden spots within the grounds that volunteers may "adopt" and weed at least 4 times during the summer months (June, July, August, and September - one time per month). Notification of the annual spring clean up is communicated during the first week of May through parish communications. Money Counters Money Counters Money (collection) counters count and deposit the weekend collections. There are 6 teams of 3 people who meet on Sunday morning, immediately following the 9:00am Mass. Teams are scheduled monthly on a rotating basis, serving 2 times per year. Volunteers for this ministry should have basic math skills, the ability to use a calculator (adding machine), and money handling skills, while not required, would be a plus. All members of this ministry are required to maintain confidentiality. Photo Video Photographer / Videographer Are you an amateur photographer or videographer? Would you be willing to put your gifts and talents to use for the parish? St. Mary's is trying to develop a more visual presence in the bulletin as well as on our website and on social media. To do this we need people who would be willing to take photographs and video at our many events as the year unfolds. The frequency of the commitment would be based on availability. Ministry Requirements All photographers/videographers must be current with their Safe Environment training through the Diocese of Syracuse. If you would like to volunteer and have not been certified through Safe Environment, you must take the initial training course and complete the required background check before you will be allowed to volunteer in this capacity. All photos taken at parish events that include children must be turned over to the parish and removed from personal devices, per the Safe Environment policy.

Confirmation Confirmation Deepening Our Baptismal Life In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ. Matrimony Matrimony A Union Under God The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Anointing of the Sick Anointing of the Sick Bringing Spiritual Strength During an Illness Anointing of the sick is administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness, especially near the time of death. It is most likely one of the last sacraments one will receive. Anointing of the sick conveys several graces and imparts gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation, and conveys peace and fortitude (CCC1520). Does a person have to be dying to receive this sacrament? No. The Catechism says, "The anointing of the sick is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived" (CCC1514). The residents of Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place are anointed twice a year. A Prayer Space, also known as a Prayer Corner or Sacred Space, is a designated place in your home that serves as your “church away from church.” It’s a place you can go to, alone or as a family, to pray or feel closer to God. The Bonacchi family has shared their Prayer Space with us. Watch this short video of their sweet children praying to the Blessed Mother! Here’s how you can make a Prayer Space in your home: Pick a place in your home where you can have your Prayer Space. Some people pick a windowsill, a corner of a low traffic room, or a space in a special room in the house or apartment. Choose items that are meaningful to your prayer life. I love religious statues and religious art. So, my prayer space would have statues of Jesus and the saints, as well as pictures of He and the saints. I also have a cross and a Bible. I also set up a comfy chair to sit on while I read Scripture, listen to the rosary recited online, or listen to our Director of Music, Ryan Schaffer, read the Stations of the Cross. It’s that simple! You can make your Prayer Space as simple or elaborate as you choose. Funeral Pre-Planning Form St. Mary's now offers the option to create a funeral pre-plan online! A funeral pre-plan is an excellent way to make advanced selections of the details for your own or your loved one's funeral service and to have a record of those selections kept on file at the St. Mary's Parish Office. To create a funeral pre-plan, complete a funeral pre-plan form below, and upon submitting the completed form, a copy will be emailed immediately to the person who completed the form, with a copy also emailed to St. Mary's Parish Office, where it will be kept on file.
