Faith Formation 2021 / 2022

Faith Formation Overview:

As you've heard at Mass and through parish and Faith Formation emails, Faith Formation this year is new, different, and exciting! St. Augustine's and St. Mary's Faith Formation programs are coming together for classes, and we will be meeting at both parishes.

To help you to understand the changes, I have made informational videos for you; click here to view them.  Next to each video is a printed version of what is discussed in the videos.  Please watch them completely, as many of your questions will be answered, but, of course, don't hesitate to contact me at cmackey@syrdio.org if you have any additional questions.

Also, immediately below are upcoming important dates and reminders.  Please check this page often for the latest updates.

If you still need to register your child for Faith Formation, you can do so using the button below.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. I look forward to an exciting new year of faith, fun and family!

Blessings,

Cathy Mackey

Director of Faith Formation for the Parishes of St. Augustine's & St. Mary's

Food Collection Events:

St. Mary's is partnering with St. Augustine's and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton to collect food for those in need this holiday season.  We're seeking volunteers to help us prepare bags & paperwork for food collection, distribute food collection bags, collect food, and sort food.  Please note that each food collection event listed below is limited to eight volunteers, and the registration forms will no longer accept responses when the maximum number of volunteers has been reached.  Some of these activities, particularly distribution of food bags, will take place outdoors.  If you register your child for one of these events, please have your child dress accordingly for cold weather.

Click the links below to register for each food collection event.  All events below will take place at St. Mary's.

Living the Lesson Assignment Due:

November 7

The "Living the Lesson" assignment is due by this date in order to receive the 2 or 2.5 contact hours. Remember, students in grades 1, 2, 8, 9 and 10 must have 30 contact hours completed by the end of the Faith Formation year.

Scroll down to see some pictures of awesome "Living the Lesson" assignments we've received so far!

Here are the "Living the Lesson" assignments:

GRADES 1-5 "Living the Lesson" assignment (to be completed as a family):
Pope Francis has declared this year the "Year of St. Joseph" in the Catholic Church. For this month's Living the Lesson, please talk to your child about St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus and husband to Mary. What do you think he was like? What do you think he and Jesus did together? We know he was a carpenter, so it would be normal for his son to work with him throughout the day and to learn the trade, contributing to the work. They must have spent day after day building together....The lesson for this month is to "build" something together as a family. It can be a lavish meal, a complex dessert, a puzzle, furniture, whatever you choose! Also, talk about why you think I'm having you do this. What does this have to do with Theology, God or our Church? Please be sure it takes at least 2 hours to complete (you have until 11/6 to complete it) in order to be considered for our contact hours for our grades 1-5 program. When completed, send me a picture so I can see the incredible work you've done!

GRADES 6-10 "Living the Lesson" assignment (to be completed as a family):
Pope Francis has declared this year the "Year of St. Joseph" in the Catholic Church. For this month's Living the Lesson, please talk to your child about St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus and husband to Mary. What do you think he was like? They must have spent day after day building together....The lesson for this month is to "build" something together as a family. It can be a lavish meal, a complex dessert, a puzzle, furniture, whatever you choose! It must take 2.5 hours to complete in order to be considered for the contact hours for our 6-10 program. Also, talk about why you think I'm having you do this. What does this have to do with Theology, God or our Church? When completed, send me a picture so I can see the incredible work you've done and give your child the credit hours!

It is totally acceptable to do one "Living the Lesson" for an entire family, if you have more than one child in the program. Just be sure that each member equally participates and contributes and most importantly, that you have some great family time in the process and have some great conversation about our faith!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Cathy Mackey at cmackey@syrdio.org.
